Bert Utermark, Partner

Bert is Partner at TDA. He holds an MBA from IMD, Switzerland, and completed the Stanford GSB LEAD Certificate program in Corporate Innovation. He has over 20 years in strategy consulting, business transformation, and innovation management in Europe, Australia and the Middle East. A seasoned strategy and transformation executive, Bert held various senior corporate roles

He also acted as adjunct faculty at Hult International U, Dubai, and is well versed in a multitude of frameworks and techniques related to Strategy Consulting, Design Thinking, IBM’s Business Value from TechnologyTM framework, Transformation Roadmapping and Change Management, and multi-stakeholder program & project management.

His pertinent experience entails inter alia:

  • Angel investor and consultant in private practice, with a focus on investment opportunity appraisals, market screening and new venture substantiation, strategy & business plan development, organizational governance and performance optimization
  • Chief Strategy & Risk Management Officer at a large stock-listed MENA company (2017 cap: USD 16bn), defining the strategy & transformation plan to create viable business ecosystems through spin-offs, JVs, business partnerships and alliances along the value chain
  • Director of Transformation and Executive Team member at a MENA Stock Exchange, coordinating multi-agency programs for capital market reform, and set up of a new organizational unit
  • Head of Arthur D. Little’s Innovation Management practice in the Middle East & South East Asia, e.g.leading development of a national innovation ecosystem blueprint as part of the wider Science Technology and Innovation (STI) strategy of a MENA country
  • Global Business Development & Operations Manager of IBM’s Business Technology Consulting practice, coordinating joint efforts between IBM’s Research Laboratories and IBM’s Business Consulting Services, to convert strategic client issues into commercially viable, technology-enabled business growth opportunities
  • Chief Knowledge Officer of IBM’s German strategy consulting subsidiary
